Google Ads for local service businesses

Someone searching "emergency plumber near me" at 11pm is not browsing. Google Ads is where you catch demand that already exists, and where a sloppy account burns money fastest.

Search is the highest-intent channel you can buy. It is also the one where waste hides best. Broad match without negatives, bidding on "jobs" and "salary" and "DIY", call extensions nobody tracks, and smart bidding trained on form fills from people looking for a job at your company. We see all of it in the first audit, usually in the same account.

We build search around the terms that produce booked work. Service plus location, emergency and same-day intent, and the specific jobs that pay best. Negatives go in before launch and get added every week from the search terms report, because Google will always find a new way to spend on the wrong query.

Local Services Ads sit above everything else for many trades and charge per lead instead of per click. For eligible businesses they are often the cheapest high-intent leads available, and we manage the profile, the reviews and the lead disputes that most owners never file.

Then the step that makes everything else work. Calls and forms tracked to the keyword, and booked jobs imported back from your CRM as offline conversions. Smart bidding is only as smart as what you teach it. Teach it booked jobs and it bids for booked jobs.

What the work includes

Search campaigns

Built around high-intent service and location terms, with match types and negatives set before launch.

Local Services Ads

Profile setup, review strategy and weekly lead disputes for the leads that were never real jobs.

Performance Max, carefully

Used where it earns its place, with brand exclusions and real conversion data, never as a black box on autopilot.

Call tracking

Every call attributed to the campaign and keyword that produced it, because most home service leads phone in.

Offline conversion import

Booked jobs sent back from your CRM, so smart bidding optimizes for revenue instead of clicks.

Weekly search term hygiene

Negatives added every week. The single most boring task in Google Ads, and one of the most valuable.

Questions

Are Google Local Services Ads worth it?

For many home service trades, yes. They appear above normal search ads, you pay per lead rather than per click, and you can dispute leads that were not real jobs. They work best with strong reviews and a team that answers the phone quickly.

Should I use Performance Max for a service business?

Sometimes. Performance Max can find leads across Google, but it tends to lean on your brand terms and it needs good conversion data to spend well. We use it once search and tracking are solid, with brand exclusions in place, and judge it on booked jobs rather than reported conversions.

Why is my Google Ads cost per click so high?

High-intent service terms are expensive because they work. What matters is cost per booked job. Tight keywords, strong negatives, ads that match the search and a landing page that converts all bring cost per job down, even when cost per click stays high.

Do Google Ads help my Google Maps ranking?

No. Paid ads and organic map pack rankings are separate systems, and buying ads does not move your organic position. They work well together though. Ads cover the searches and areas where you do not rank yet, and Rank on Maps handles the organic side.
